Hello friends,
I am running an online business but I have problem with my site url because it’s too long and ugly. I want shrink it down to a manageable size. Please let me know if you have any idea. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

It all depends on your site software as to whether there are already facilities to change URL's. For instance some CMS's and some blog software have facilities to change URL's as part of the system.

If you are running Apache then you can also use mod_rewrite to change the URLS's. again depending on your server set up you may be able to control this from a .htaccess file or you may need to do it in the httpd.conf file.

The other option is to not create ugly url's in the first place if that is possible.

Finally before you make any changes you need to carefully analyse your status in search engines because if your pages are already indexed then you should be careful changing URL's so that the search engine knows its done and you don't use your rankings.

The message is investigate, plan then do.

cheers

Pete

Hi,
It’s not a big problem I know site called www.dwarfurl.com that provides to make long url in to a small url. It's absolutely free to use, and your newly created link will never expire. Hope this will help you. All the best!

Hi
you have to notice that each link url has two parts:
between [url]......[url]
and out of it.
with the part out of [url]......[url] you can erase many words just keeping some important words.
if you had created this link, you could rename and reduce it
Cheers
