Sorry I don't have personal experience of using Active Directory with external authentication of roles. I found a page in the documentation that talks about using AD with Oracle and external authentication of roles from Windows clients - this is "Authenticating Database Users with Windows" available at tm.
I also found a paper on Oracles site called Using "Oracle with Active Directory TWP" available at ctory_TWP.pdf that may be of use.  
Maybe someone else has had actual experience who may be able to help.
