Title: Performance fixes in CPU october 2006
Post by Pete Finnigan on Oct 19th, 2006, 1:59pm
Today I took a closer look at the latest Critical Patch Update and noticed that there performance fixes in this one. Has this happened before?

For example:
4479933 - INDEX SKIP SCAN AND OR AND BIND VARIABLES
4634368 - PERFORMANCE ISSUES WITH LOBS DURING RECLAIMATION RESULTS IN SEVERE SLOW DOWNS
4113930 - SPACE RECLAIMATION SHOWS HW ENQUEUE CONTENTION WITH CONCURRENT INSERT OF LOBS 4968994 - QUERYING REMOTE TABLES USES POOR EXECUTION PLAN
and more.

This is starting to look more like a 9.2.0 release and should be tested like one. This might take extra time and therefor it might take longer to go to production.

I'm not sure if this has happened before but according to the Oracle FAQ sheet:

11.   What types of bug fixes are included in the Critical Patch Updates?

The Critical Patch Update contains fixes for high and medium severity security issues, and other non-security "critical fixes."  These  non-security fixes are generally:

   * Prerequisites for the security patch
   * Patches that large numbers of customers have requested
   * Patches that may have already been applied, that may otherwise cause patch conflict.
