Yesterday on Slashdot I read this article (http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/08/28/1745245&tid=172&tid=123&tid=219) with a link to an Time magazine article (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1098961-2,00.html) about a Chinese hackergroup Titan Rain that is cracking US Department of Defense networks and downloading massive sets of files detailing every aspect of military planning and practice.

This sounds kind of worrying. If they manage to obtain US classified information, either the security wasn't very good, which I doubt. Or they must be one step ahead somehow, knowing a lot of security leaks we don't know of.

On the other hand, maybe the US are misinforming them this way. As a regular citizen you never know.

Sometime on November 1st, 2004, hackers sat down at computers in southern China and set off once again on their daily hunt for U.S. secrets. Since 2003 the group had been conducting wide-ranging assaults on U.S. government targets to steal sensitive information, part of a massive cyberespionage ring that U.S. investigators have codenamed Titan Rain. On this particular night, the hackers' quarry was military data, and they were armed with a new weapon to reach out across cyberspace and get it.
