password change using OCI not audited

If I use the php function oci_password_change and the database is configured to audit user (AUDIT USER), no record can be found in the audit_trail of the password change.

sqlplus command PASSWORD and sql statement ALTER USER are audited correctly.

Can someone tell me how this is possible?
