Preferred OS for Oracle?

I'm currently reading The Database Hacker's Handbook by David Litchfield and others. There is a statement about preferred operations systems for Oracle databases below:
"...although it seems its [Oracle] preferred OS of choice is moving away from Solaris towards Linux."
What are the primary requirements when choosing an OS for Oracle databases? We are currently running Oracle on AIX. Do you know if Oracle is more secure on certain OS's? Are there any known pitfalls of running Oracle on AIX?
