Oracle Security Step By Step Version 1

This is the first book that I wrote for SANS. In the past SANS created step-by-step guides and asked someone to manage a mailing list for everyone to pass in tips and tricks and over time this became a checklist book.

With Oracle security literally no one did it back then in 2001/2002. I had released a number of papers and also the biggest paper ever on Oracle security so Alan Paller who owned SANS contacted me and asked me to write the book and then put it out for review. This is why I am named as author unlike other SANS Step-by-Step guides. This book was published in 2003 but I wrote it in 2002.

This book is a detailed check list of things to look for in the Oracle database. This is based on current versions at the time and also this was my view of what Oracle security should look like. SANS donated the book to CIS (Center for Internet Security) to become the first Oracle benchmark (without credit to me) as a copy of the checks and no annotated text.

I went on to write the SANS 509 six day Oracle security class as well. The book is not in print but (expensive copies can be found on the internet.
